GENERAL INFORMATION - Most coin rings are made from Circulated Coins. Because they are circulated some may have small nicks, scratches and wear. Although we try to pick coins that will make good quality rings, please be aware that there may be minor flaws in the ring because of this.
You are responsible for providing me an accurate ring size. If I make the ring to the size you specify and it does not fit, I will resize it for free (if possible). I want you to be happy with your purchase but cannot offer refunds or exchanges on something made just for you.
Make sure you know your ring size. If you are not sure of the size ring you
wear, you should get your ring finger measured at any jewelry store.
The "Optimum Ring Sizes" are listed for each type of coin and should guide
your selection. Larger and smaller rings are usually possible, but the look
and balance of the ring is usually diminished when sized outside of the
optimum range.
There is always a slight taper associated with double sided coin rings. This taper will either show up on the inside of the ring, or on the outside. This is due to the outer edge of the coin being thicker than the center of the coin, which will become the other edge of the ring when its finished. Rather than end up with the taper on the outside where it would diminish the ring's appearance, we choose to leave the taper on the inside. This produces a more symmetrical looking ring when worn. When we measure the ring we go by the end of the ring with the smallest diameter to determine the size.
Some people are sensitive to non-precious metals worn against their skin. If you show a reaction to nickel, copper, or brass, the clear jewelry sealer we apply to these types of coins should solve your problem. Another option is to limit the time you wear the ring. If you intend to wear your ring on a daily basis, it's probably best to select a 90% silver or gold coin.
Our prices are fairly consistent. However, some rings may cost more or less depending on the type of coin, its date and availability. (Coins of certain dates are more scarce and are therefore more expensive or even unavailable). The ever changing availability and cost of coins requires us to quote prices rather than post them in the gallery. Whereas, the coin rings in our Ring Shop are all priced.
The coin rings displayed in this Gallery are samples of
what yours will look like. All rings are custom made by
year, coin type, orientation, finish and then sized to fit.
Once you have found the right coin for the ring you want,

Non-circulating bullion coins have been produced each year since 1986. They can be found in silver, gold and also platinum since 1997. The face value of these coins is legal as tender, but does not actually reflect the value of the precious metal contained therein. We will be more than happy to make you a gold or platinum coin ring, but we ask that you supply the coin. We do not stock or purchase gold or platinum coins for customers. Arrangements can be made by emailing The Coin Smith for terms and shipping instructions.
The United States resumed minting commemorative coins in 1982 for the 250th anniversary of the birth of George Washington. Modern commemoratives tend to be restricted to events, buildings and personalities of national or international importance. While silver dollars remain the traditional denomination, low-value circulating commemoratives have gained in popularity.

A less expensive alternative: We have a supplier that mints exact replicas of U.S. Coins. These coins comply with the US Hobby Protection Act - 15USC-2101 regarding reproduction coins. They are obviously not made of solid gold but look real impressive and make great looking coin rings. Many of these coins are gem quality proofs and are layered in 24K gold. If you are interested, select the coin you want, we'll select
the year from the replicas we have on hand. You'll
receive an impressive looking coin ring, for a fraction
of the cost.
Please be advised that in order to comply with the US Hobby Protection Act - 15USC-2101, all replica coins manufactured or minted must have the word 'COPY' imprinted on the reverse. (Normally inside the band).

It amazes me what beauty can come from a lowly token. They are used and abused. We have all had occasion to use them for just about everything from carnival rides and games, tolls, car washes, ice machines, and parking, Most of us have a few of them sitting around the house. Why not let The Coin Smith turn one of your favorites into a beautiful coin ring. Send me an email and let me know what you have or are looking for. Dime size tokens can be made into ring sizes: 1 - 4, Nickel size tokens 3-6, Quarter size tokens 4.5 - 8.5, Half Dollar size tokens 8 - 13, Silver Dollar size tokens 13 -17.
